Three strengths, one starting point

Start with the question in front of you.

You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what treatment you need or which dentist should answer every question. Start with the problem that brought you in. The practice can begin with regular care, an urgent concern, or a conversation about the care you have delayed.

Then the right experience can come into focus. Dr. Powless brings hospital-based surgical training and long experience supporting patients with more complex needs. Dr. Matos makes treatment choices understandable, in English or Spanish, before you decide. Dr. Rushmore brings the steady, local focus of a general dentist patients can return to for everyday care.

That is the advantage of choosing a dental home with different strengths already in the same St. Pete practice.

Dr. R. Andrew Powless, DMD

Surgical perspective for more involved decisions.

Dr. Powless completed hospital-based oral and maxillofacial surgery training at Jackson Memorial Hospital and LSU. At St. Pete, that background changes the first conversation when a missing tooth, an involved procedure, or a patient’s medical or developmental needs deserve more than a routine answer.

For more than 20 years, he has cared for children and adults with mental, physical, and developmental challenges. That history is particularly meaningful for patients who have found dental treatment difficult to receive. Instead of treating comfort or support as an afterthought, the practice can begin by asking what needs to be considered before care moves ahead.

His leadership experience in dental and oral and maxillofacial surgery at Tampa General Hospital reflects the rigor he brings to decisions where planning matters.

What Dr. Powless brings to the practice

  • Hospital-based oral and maxillofacial surgery training at Jackson Memorial Hospital and LSU
  • Leadership experience in dental and oral and maxillofacial surgery at Tampa General Hospital
  • More than 20 years caring for children and adults with mental, physical, and developmental challenges
  • An informed starting point when a missing tooth or involved procedure is part of the decision
  • A more deliberate conversation for patients considering sedation-supported care

Dr. Jose Matos

A plan you can understand before choosing.

Dr. Matos begins with what the patient wants to change and what they are ready to address. Then he explains the findings plainly and builds a plan around those goals.

That is more useful than simply naming a procedure. Someone deciding about a restoration or a cosmetic change needs to understand the choices, the order of care, and what each next step is meant to accomplish. Dr. Matos gives patients that information before asking them to move forward.

He brings education from the University of South Florida and Virginia Commonwealth University to the practice and provides care in English and Spanish.

What Dr. Matos brings to the practice

  • Treatment plans shaped around the patient’s goals
  • Direct explanations before a patient decides what comes next
  • A clear starting point for restorative and cosmetic decisions
  • Care in English and Spanish
  • Education from the University of South Florida and Virginia Commonwealth University

Dr. Carson Rushmore, DDS

Local, steady care for everyday dentistry.

Dr. Rushmore is a St. Pete native and a graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. She brings a hometown connection to the care patients need most often: maintaining their regular visits, addressing concerns before they get bigger, and having a dentist they know where to return.

As a gentle general dentist, her focus is comfort and confidence in the chair. That makes her a strong choice for patients looking to make routine care feel more manageable, not more intimidating.

What Dr. Rushmore brings to the practice

  • A St. Pete native’s connection to the community the practice serves
  • A Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry
  • Gentle general dentistry focused on comfort and confidence
  • An everyday-care focus for patients age five and up
  • A familiar dentist for regular visits and early concerns
